State Sen. Chuck Weaver (R-Dist. 37) recently co-sponsored a resolution that urges the U.S. Congress to give Illinois the $200 million fine Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) paid for allegedly bribing House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Dist. 22).
The resolution calls for Congress to “return” the money to ComEd ratepayers either by direct distribution or by handing it over to the Illinois Commerce Commission for disbursement, a release issued by Weaver’s website said.
ComEd CEO Joe Dominguez recently appeared before the Illinois Commerce Commission to discuss the company’s actions. “On behalf of ComEd, I want to tell you that I am sorry for that conduct," he was quoted by WGN. "It violated a trust with you. There are no excuses for our conduct, and I will offer none today.”
ComEd reached a deferred prosecution agreement with the federal government, which permits the company to avoid criminal charges in exchange for meeting the requirements of the agreement, such as payment of the fine, a release issued by WGN said.
