City of Mason City Council met May 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe

Council members physically present were Gerald Mahin, Jim Miller, Alderman Mason , Mayor Bruce Lowe and Superintendent Wayne Dixon were physically present. Via Zoomswer Treasurer Mike Griffin, Alderpersons Julie Mize, Kevin Snyder, and Scott Francis, Mayor Lowe and Clerk Whitehead. Chief Anderson participated via Zoom phone and Wendy Martin also joined via zoom.

The minutes of the April 27th Council meeting, the May Accounts payable and Treasurer’s reports were approved.

R20-33 Alderman Mize moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the minutes of the April 27th, 2020 regular council meeting, the treasurer’s report, and the bills and advanced checks be allowed and warrants drawn for payment. (To be inserted in minute’s book)

Ayes: Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Superintendent Dixon brought up the issue of the Lagoon sand filters needing cleaned. The matter was tabled until more cost estimates can be obtained.

R20-34 Alderman Miller moved, seconded by Alderman Mize to approve the bid from IRC in the amount of $44,597.70 for 2020 street maintenance.

Ayes: Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

R20-35 Alderman Snyder moved, seconded by Alderman Mason to approve the expenditure for pay request #2 from Schwartz construction for the CSO project.

Ayes: Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Chief Anderson explained to the council that there is a program he would like to send our two part-time officers to so that they may become able to work over the 1000 hour limit currently in place for part-time officers who work multiple jurisdictions, referred to as the 80 hour transition class. The Council approved.

R20-36 Alderman Francis moved, seconded by Alderman Mize to approve the expenditure for the police 80 hour transition class.

Ayes: Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:30 P.M.
