VI) Mayor’s Announcements/Correspondence
1. Police Commissioner Appointment Ranodore Foggs – Motion by Wells, Lanter to accept the appointment. His experience and background were reviewed. He is a retired Captain from the Illinois State Police with 25 years of service. He the former Chief of the East St. Louis PD. He’s the Pastor of the New Horizon Community Church and current Director of Public Safety for McKendree University.
2. Proclamation to be coordinated with additional contacts to recognize Jaylon Muchison. He is an international speaking event winner. He’s a Belleville West High School student and his winnings at multiple events has provided funds that he plans to use towards college costs.
3. There were two letters of support for the Boul Avenue trail.
4. 8/12/20 from1-3 pm there will be free ice cream for the staff/officials held in the parking lot of the Administrative Building. The event will provide for social distancing and be outside.
VII) Village Attorney – No Comments. /Village Administrator Comments – While the Village has no say so in school procedures, efforts are made to stay in contact with the local schools to stay current on their policies with options for in person or on-line attendance and requirements for parents to certify health, travel and other reporting requirements. There is extensive cleaning. Grab and go meals, instead of typical cafeteria service, is provided. There are currently no sports or extracurricular activities. A section of the Swansea Report will share the message related to school procedures. The audit is continuing. Pension numbers are being reviewed. The Personnel Handbook is under attorney review. COVID response at the administrative office was reviewed. The State of Illinois is providing election day as a holiday. However, this holiday will not be added to the list of holidays for the Village of Swansea. Other neighboring communities are similarly not offering the day as an extra paid holiday.
