City of Mason City Council Met Feb. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Public hearing regarding water system improvements 6:30 P.M. presented by Tim Sumner of CMT.

Guests present: Tim Sumner and Wendy Martin.

Call to order by Mayor Bruce Lowe at approximately 7:00 P.M.

Council members physically present were Scott Francis, Gerald Mahin, Kevin Snyder, Danny Mason, Julie Mize, and Jim Miller. Treasurer Mike Griffin, Clerk Michele Whitehead, Superintendent Wayne Dixon, Heather Herndon and Wendy Martin were also present.

The minutes of the January 25th, 2021 Council meeting and the February accounts payable and January Treasurer’s report were approved.

R21-13 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Miller to approve the regular session minutes of the January 25th, 2021 meeting, the February account payable and January treasurer report.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Superintendent Dixon informed the Council he will be in need of a check to send to the Imperial Water Valley Authority for payment of $2000.00 for a permit for drilling well #8. The Council approved.

R21-14 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderperson Mize to approve payment of $2000.00 to IVWA for a drilling permit for well #8.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

Superintendent Dixon also stated that Bluebird network is wanting to boar fiber optic cable for a new cell tower. The areas affected are S. Main from Darling Ingredients to Jefferson and down to Division. The Council approved.

R21-15 Alderperson Mize moved, seconded by Alderman Snyder to approve the boring requested by the Bluebird Nework for installation of fiber optic cable for cell tower update.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

R21-16 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderman Francis to approve the estimate of funds at an expense of $70,450.76 including payrequest #11 from Schwartz construction in the amount of $66,027.85.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

R21-17 Alderman Mason moved, seconded by Alderperson Mize to close a section of W. Pine Street if needed for the Fireman’s Soup Supper to be held March 13, 2021.

Ayes: Alderpersons Mize, Snyder, Miller, Francis, Mahin, and Mason

Nays: None

Chairman declared motion carried.

A closing statement was received from Glacier Sands regarding final purchase of the Civic Center building. The sale of the Civic Center was approved.

R21-18 Alderman Mason moved seconded by Alderperson Mize to approve the sale of the Civic Center to Glacier Sand Wind Power.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:17 P.M.
