State Rep. Mark Luft (R-Pekin) has officially announced he'll be running  for re-election.

He's found support from colleague Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria).

"I am PROUD to endorse my friend and colleague, state Rep. Mark Luft for re-election," Spain wrote in a Jan. 19 Facebook post. "Mark has been a great contributor to the House Republican caucus in Springfield and does an exemplary job representing his constituents back home."

In his own Facebook post, Luft said he was "excited" to launch his campaign for re-election.

"The communities in my district are my priority," Luft wrote in the post. "Effective conservative leadership matters, and I'm proud to bring people together to serve our district."

He said his top priorities are growing the economy, protecting parents' rights, tackling corruption, and continuing to support the police.

"I once again ask for your vote, and thank you for all of your support," he wrote. "If you'd like to help by circulating a petition for my campaign, please visit MarkLuft.com. Thank you!"

Luft was elected to serve in the 91st District in 2020 with 63% of the vote over his challenger. He also continues to serve as the mayor of Pekin, according to his campaign website.

His first bill was signed into law back in August. The legislation, known as House Bill 1926, focused on getting rid of City and Billiage Tuberculosis Sanitariums Division of the Illinois Municipal Code, according to a press release on his House website.

A month before his bill officially became law, the Peoria Standard reported that Luft spoke out about the need for ethics reform in Illinois. He's called upon Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) "to enact meaningful ethics reform."
