City of Chillicothe Police Commission met Aug. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order at 10:05 A.M. by Chairman, Gary Fyke. The following members were present: 

a. Gary Fyke, Beau Ledbetter, Chuck Vail, Chief Cooper, and secretary, Shayne Jezek. 

b. Absent: no one. 

2. Approval of Minutes: Beau made a motion to approve the minutes of last month's meeting; Chuck second. The minutes of last month's meeting were approved, as all voted in favor. 

3. Unfinished Business: 

a. Regarding the personnel issue, the Police Commission Board has no legal jurisdiction in this matter. This was confirmed by City Attorney Day. 

b. Chief Cooper informed the Board that Jared Farrance will begin the Academy September 5 with a finish date of December 22, 2023. 

4. New Business: 

a. There was a general discussion regarding the Personnel Grievance process. The Board will research and present their findings later to establish a procedure. 

b. At this point, the CPD has 1 new applicant. Therefore, it was determined that a new media campaign for recruitment will begin shortly. This will give plenty of time to accept applications, as the next testing date will be October 7, 2023, at 8:00 A.M. 

5. Announcements: There were no new announcements at this time. 

6. Public Comments: There were no public comments at this time. 

7. Adjournment: The next meeting will be September 19, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Beau and second by Chuck at 10:26 A.M.; all voted in favor, and the motion passed.
