Peoria-based U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood (R-IL) has thrown his support behind fellow Congressman Jim Jordan for the role of Speaker of the House.

LaHood took to Facebook to express his endorsement, highlighting Jordan’s leadership qualities and emphasizing the need for unity within their party to achieve key policy goals.

“I am proud to support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House and it’s time for our conference to unite behind him. Jim is the leader who can bring our conference together and deliver on the promises of our Majority - secure the border, rein in spending, and provide needed oversight on the Biden Administration,” LaHood said.

Amidst the ongoing House speaker vote Jordan announced he would continue his bid for speaker with a third House vote, despite losing support between the first and second rounds of voting, NBC News reported.

The impasse in the House has stalled critical legislative actions, including emergency funding for Israel and Ukraine, with U.S. Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), threatening to resign as speaker pro tempore if GOP colleagues attempt to advance legislation without expanding his powers.

The move to support Jordan for the position comes after House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was ousted from the position.

McCarthy’s removal, occurring just three days short of the nine-month anniversary of his election as Speaker, followed a motion to vacate that had never been successfully deployed in the House before, according to the New York  Post.

LaHood voted in favor of establishing the United States House Judiciary Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, which was notably headed by Jordan.

The subcommittee has been actively investigating censorship of truthful information removed from social media websites by the Biden Administration, referred to as the “Censorship Industrial Complex” by free speech advocates.

The subcommittee has uncovered evidence of a significant domestic censorship campaign carried out by the federal government and has held hearings addressing issues related to the politicization of the FBI and DOJ, as well as attacks on American civil liberties, including the handling of sensitive information, such as the Hunter Biden laptop scandal and the COVID “lab leak theory.”
