The City of Peoria Department of Public Works has announced that it will be hosting two public meetings to discuss the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue One-Way to Two-Way (OWTW) Conversion Project. The meetings will be held on Thursday, February 15, from 11 am to 1 pm and from 5-7 pm at 205 SW Adams Street.

According to the Department of Public Works, the purpose of these meetings is to provide information and address any concerns that the public may have regarding the OWTW Conversion Project. Representatives from the City and the OWTW Project team will be present to discuss the project and answer any questions.

"We encourage the public to attend these meetings to learn more about the OWTW Conversion Project and to have their concerns addressed," said a spokesperson from the City of Peoria Department of Public Works.

During the meetings, exhibits and maps will be on display, allowing attendees to visualize the proposed changes. The project aims to convert Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue from their current one-way configuration to two-way streets. The construction work is expected to begin in March, depending on weather conditions.

The conversion of these streets into two-way thoroughfares will involve several improvements. These include the installation of corner bump-outs to reduce pedestrian crossing distances, the addition of bike lanes, the upgrading of traffic signals, and the milling and overlay of the existing pavement. The final result will be a roadway with one lane in each direction, as well as a bidirectional turn lane. Existing on-street parking and sidewalks will be maintained.

The project will focus on Adams Street, stretching from Walnut Street to Hamilton Boulevard, and Jefferson Avenue, from Walnut Street to Fayette Street. The estimated cost of the OWTW Project is $18.9 million, and it is expected to take approximately two and a half years to complete. The project is scheduled to be finished by the summer of 2026.

For more information about the Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue OWTW Conversion Project or the upcoming meetings, interested individuals can contact Peoria Public Works at 309-494-8800.

The City of Peoria is committed to providing a platform for public input and engagement, ensuring that residents have the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns. These meetings will serve as a valuable opportunity for the community to learn more about the OWTW Conversion Project and actively participate in shaping the future of Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue.
