The City of Peoria has issued a combined sewer overflow (CSO) alert following recent rainfall, causing an overflow into the Illinois River. Residents are advised to exercise caution in the affected areas.

"When this warning is posted, please avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River in the area downstream from Detweiller Marina. You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow."

In response to the situation, the City of Peoria is taking proactive measures to address the issue and minimize the impact on the environment and public health.

"The City of Peoria is constructing projects to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the Illinois River during wet weather, as required under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree."

The city is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and the protection of the local waterways. It is essential for the community to stay informed and follow any guidelines or alerts provided by the authorities during such events.
