The City of Peoria issued a sewage warning on Mar 25, 2024, alerting residents about a combined sewer overflow (CSO) into the Illinois River due to recent rainfall. The warning specifically cautions against full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina to avoid potential health risks.

"When this warning is posted, please avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River in the area downstream from Detweiller Marina. You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow," advised the City of Peoria.

In response to the situation, the City of Peoria reassured the public that efforts are underway to address the issue of combined sewer overflows. They stated, "The City of Peoria is constructing projects to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the Illinois River during wet weather, as required under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree."

The City's actions align with regulatory mandates aimed at improving water quality and safeguarding public health in the affected areas.
