The City of Peoria will host a sculpture rededication program on Wednesday, August 14, at 2:30 p.m. The event will take place at Liberty Park, adjacent to the MEL parking lot in the 300 block of SW Water Street and near the River Station building.

The sculpture, titled "Flight of the Cakewalkers," was created by Preston Jackson in 2001. Initially exhibited at Navy Pier in Chicago, it was later installed on Peoria's riverfront. Joy Kessler sponsored the restoration of the piece to honor her husband, Steve Shostrom. Shostrom is recognized in Peoria for founding Running Central, establishing the Illinois Valley Striders, and serving as the founder and first director of the Steamboat Classic. He has also been instrumental in developing Peoria’s riverfront and has contributed significantly to the Peoria Park District as a member of its Recreation Committee.

Speakers at the event will include Mayor Rita Ali, Emily Cahill, Executive Director of Peoria Park District, and Joy Kessler.

Details of the Event:
