Rainfall in the City of Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow (CSO) into the Illinois River within the last 24 hours. This event has occurred from one or more locations indicated on a map provided by city officials.

Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River downstream from Detweiller Marina. "You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow," warned city authorities.

The City of Peoria is currently working on projects aimed at reducing CSOs into the Illinois River during wet weather. These efforts are part of requirements under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
