City of Batavia City Council met Sept. 3.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

1. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

2. INVOCATION followed by PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Ald. Uher led the Pledge of Allegiance.

3. ROLL CALL

Ald. Beck read aloud the Consent Agenda. Ald. Solfa arrived at 7:05 p.m.

Motion by Ald. Beck, seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the consent agenda. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.

7. MATTERS FROM THE PUBLIC: (For Items NOT On The Agenda)

Patti Lackman rose to address the Council on behalf of the Central Kane County League of Women Voters. She spoke about the goals and objectives of the League. For the first time, the League will ask candidates for local office to complete a candidate questionnaire on energy and environmental public policy. The questionnaire will be made available to candidates in early January 2025.

8. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Margaret Perreault delivered her report on the recent and upcoming activities and programs of the Chamber of Commerce. She welcomed new members to the Chamber. The Chamber now includes more than 500 members. The Donna Dallesasse award in 2024 will be awarded to Jason Stoffels of Enticing Cuisine at the Chamber Cheers event on October 3rd.

The Chamber will host “Eye on Aging” at Lincoln Inn, Tuesday, September 10th from 4-7 p.m. This event will focus on helping set individuals up for a successful retirement.

She introduced her guest Michelle Frediani, of Precisely Practical, a professional organizing business. Frediani spoke about her business and the services she provides to the community. Ald. Vogelsinger offered a testimonial about Frediani’s work.

9. APPROVAL: Waive Formal Bidding for Nitrification and Blower Upgrades at the WWTF

Ald. Wolff introduced the approval to waive formal bidding.

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the reappointment. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.

10. RES 2024-112-R: Approving Contract with Dahme Mechanical for Nitrification/Blower Upgrades for $65,000 (ZB 8/07/24 COW 8/27/24 11/0) PU

Ald. Wolff introduced the Resolution.

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to approve the appointment. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.

11. ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT

Administrator Newman delivered her report on the recent and upcoming initiatives of the City of Batavia. On September 14th Batavia Fire Department will have an open house at the West side station on Main Street across from the high school.

Work will soon begin to reconstruct the railroad tracks at Wilson Street. The anticipated reconstruction will take three days of work and will significantly impact traffic during the work.

September is emergency preparedness month. The City has hired a company to work with the police and fire departments as well as high school students to produce a series of short films that will encourage residents to take measures to be prepared for emergencies.

City staff recently completed an EV readiness program at Argonne National Laboratory.

IDOT has given final verbal approval for the road diet. The next step is to work with the Streets Department and contractor to complete the restriping. Information is available online at the city website to learn more about the road diet and the anticipated impacts.

12. OTHER BUSINESS

13. MAYOR’S REPORT

Mayor Schielke delivered his report. A Rescue wagon group will meet in Batavia on Sunday, September 15th, partly because of the high rating of the Batavia Fire Department.

The Mayor reported that he has recently been asked how residents can best watch the Batavia High School football games. Ald. Wolff advised that the easiest way to watch games is to watch on the BATV YouTube page. Mayor Schielke intends to create a written information brief to help people watch the games.

The Illinois State MainStreet program will hold its state conference in Batavia in November.

14. EXECUTIVE SESSION- Litigation (7:44 p.m.)

Motion by Ald. Wolf , seconded by Ald. Solfa, to enter an Executive Session. Motion carried 13 yea/ 0 nay/ 1 absent.

15. ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Ald. Solfa, seconded by Ald. Malone, to adjourn. Motion carried by voice vote. The meeting adjourned at 8:07 p.m.
