Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River. The City of Peoria has issued a warning, advising residents to avoid full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina. This caution is due to potential health risks such as illness from swallowing water while engaging in activities like swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing in affected areas.

The city is actively working on projects aimed at reducing these overflows during wet weather conditions. These efforts are part of compliance with the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
