FOIA Request Sent to City Of Peoria Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Data on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Peoria Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Data on October 25, 2024.

In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have requested specific records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.

The information sought pertains to sales tax collected from retailers starting from January 1, 2024, up until the present date. We are particularly interested in data that includes monthly comparisons of actual sales tax collected versus projected figures. Additionally, we have asked for details about the number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month.

Furthering our request for transparency and accountability, we have also requested the names of each retailer and their reported gross retail sales for each month.

As a media organization dedicated to public service journalism, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also applied for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We will continue to keep you updated as we await a response from the City Of Peoria Finance Department.
