A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Washington Finance Department regarding city sales tax records on October 31, 2024. The request was made by us at Peoria Standard, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The information requested includes a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. Specifically, we asked for the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax each business paid during this period.
In addition to this detailed breakdown, we also requested the total amount of sales tax that the city collected from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. This data is crucial in understanding how much revenue the city generates from sales taxes and which types of businesses contribute most significantly to this revenue.
As a media organization dedicated to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Furthermore, given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
We are currently awaiting a response from the City Of Washington Finance Department and will keep our readers updated with any developments.
