Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River within the past day. Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina. Activities such as swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing in these areas may pose health risks if water is ingested.

The City of Peoria is working on projects aimed at reducing combined sewer overflows during wet weather. These efforts are part of compliance with the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
