A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Mason County Il Clerk & Elections Division on February 5, 2025. The request, made by us at Peoria Standard, a media organization dedicated to comprehensive and accurate news coverage of local governmental affairs, sought specific information about the candidates running in the upcoming election.
In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in public institutions, we requested an electronic format list of all candidates vying for office in the forthcoming elections. This list should include each candidate's first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, their jurisdiction of office, and their party affiliation.
Furthermore, we asked for complete contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media committed to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to these public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public sphere, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
