Congressman Darin LaHood has been reappointed by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson to continue his role on the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party, also known as the Select Committee on China, for the 119th Congress. This committee focuses on addressing aggression from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and safeguarding U.S. interests in the Indo-Pacific region.
"China has a plan to replace the United States, and they are working at it every day," stated Rep. LaHood. "The Select Committee on China will work alongside the administration to ensure that the United States is well-positioned to respond to CCP aggression through strong, bipartisan policies." He emphasized strengthening critical infrastructure, reinforcing supply chains, bolstering military capabilities, and promoting trade interests in response to this challenge.
Select Committee Chairman John Moolenaar highlighted that "the Chinese Communist Party represents the most significant national and economic security threat of our time." He expressed pride in continuing leadership of this committee and confidence in advancing policies that maintain U.S. strength against China's growing influence.
The House Select Committee on China was established at the start of the 118th Congress. Congressman LaHood has been involved with issues related to strategic competition with China since his election to Congress. His previous roles include serving on the House Republican China Taskforce during prior congressional sessions and co-chairing a bipartisan U.S.-China Working Group.
In addition to his duties on this committee, Rep. LaHood will remain a member of both the House Ways and Means Committee and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence.
