Contractors in Peoria are set to commence the demolition of Fire Station 16 on February 26. The station, located at 2105 W. Northmoor, will be dismantled with completion anticipated by mid-March. During this period, traffic near the site may experience delays and detours due to construction activities. Drivers are advised to exercise caution when traveling in the area.
Fire Chief Shawn Sollberger commented on the project, stating, “We appreciate the public’s patience as we take this important step toward improving our fire services.” He added that the new station would offer "state-of-the-art facilities" for firefighters to better serve the community.
Once demolition concludes, construction of a new fire station at the same location is planned. The city expects the new building to be ready by November 2025.
