The City of Peoria has issued a combined sewer overflow (CSO) alert following recent rainfall, leading to overflows into the Illinois River. Residents are advised to steer clear of full-body contact with the water downstream from Detweiller Marina. Activities such as swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing could pose health risks if water is swallowed.

City officials are actively working on projects aimed at minimizing these overflows, in compliance with mandates under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree. This construction is part of ongoing efforts to address the issue during wet weather conditions, ensuring the safety and health of the community.
