The Department of Public Works is set to host an open house event scheduled for Thursday, May 15, from 4-7 pm at the Public Works Facility located at 3505 N Dries Lane. This initiative is part of the recognition of National Public Works Week.

The event is designed as a family-friendly occasion, featuring interactive activities to showcase the department's operations. Attendees will have the chance to explore various pieces of equipment, including plow trucks and street sweepers. Additionally, there will be an opportunity for participants to engage artistically by painting a snowplow blade.

Entertainment will be provided by balloon and face-painting artists from Unique Twist & Twisting Crew and Expressions Body Art & Design. A bounce house, along with complimentary food and drinks, will also be available to visitors. Furthermore, several community partners will be presenting educational exhibits.

Since its initiation in 1960 by the American Public Works Association, National Public Works Week has aimed to "energize and educate the public on the importance of public works," demonstrating the critical role these services play in "planning, building, managing, and operating" to enhance everyday life across communities in the U.S. and Canada.
