Starting at 7 a.m. on Monday, May 12, North University Street will be closed to traffic at the intersection of West Pioneer Parkway. This closure is part of the Pioneer Parkway and University Street Intersection Reconstruction Project and is expected to last five weeks, weather permitting.
Significant delays are anticipated in the area. Drivers are advised to use the marked detour route and exercise extra caution.
Lane closures include both northbound lanes and the left turn lane on North University Street at the West Pioneer Parkway intersection. Northbound traffic on University Street will only be allowed to turn right onto eastbound West Pioneer Parkway. "Northbound University Street traffic will not be permitted to turn left onto westbound W Pioneer Parkway, or travel through the intersection and continue northbound on N University Street."
All southbound lanes on North University Street will also be closed at this intersection. Southbound traffic must follow the marked detour using Altorfer Drive, though business access south of Altorfer Drive will remain available. Additionally, "the left turn lane on westbound W Pioneer Parkway onto southbound N University Street will be closed," as well as "the left turn lane on eastbound W Pioneer Parkway onto northbound N University Street."
For detours, northbound through traffic should use West Willow Knolls Drive to North Allen Road and then travel east on West Altorfer Drive. Eastbound traffic needing to go north should travel via North Sommer Street and then west on West Altorfer Drive.
Southbound through traffic should utilize West Altorfer Drive to North Allen Road, continuing west on West Willow Knolls Drive for their journey. Meanwhile, westbound traffic needing to head south should take South Allen Road before heading west on West Willow Knolls Drive.
Maps illustrating both the closure and detour routes are available online.
