Congressman Darin LaHood and Congresswoman Emilia Sykes have reintroduced the Retreaded Tire Jobs, Supply Chain Security and Sustainability Act of 2025. This bipartisan legislation aims to stimulate economic growth by offering a tax credit for consumers who purchase retreaded tires made in the United States.
"I am proud to reintroduce this bipartisan legislation alongside Congresswoman Sykes to invest in our manufacturing sector while increasing American competitiveness," said Rep. LaHood. He emphasized that the bill is designed to bolster the domestic supply chain and support American manufacturing jobs.
Rep. Sykes highlighted the benefits of the act for both the economy and environment, stating, "This commonsense, bipartisan legislation is good for both the economy and the environment, and it will protect thousands of good-paying manufacturing jobs here at home."
Industry leaders also expressed their support for the proposed law. Joe Burke from Goodyear North America noted that it would incentivize retread purchases and strengthen local manufacturing jobs. Scott Damon of Bridgestone West emphasized that increased demand for U.S.-manufactured retreaded tires would promote sustainability while reducing costs for customers.
Anne Forristall Luke, President and CEO of USTMA, pointed out that approximately 15 million tires are retreaded annually in the U.S., with nearly 44% being commercial truck tires in North America. She stated, "This legislation is about more than just tires – it's about investing in American workers and promoting a sustainable, innovative manufacturing sector."
The act seeks to counteract the influx of low-quality imported tires by encouraging purchases of high-quality retreaded ones. It has garnered support from several industry leaders including Goodyear Tires, Bridgestone, and others.
