Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow (CSO) into the Illinois River within the past 24 hours. The City of Peoria advises avoiding full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina. Activities such as swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing could pose health risks if water is swallowed.

The city is working on projects aimed at reducing CSOs during wet weather. These efforts are in compliance with the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
