The Ernestine Jackson Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade, sponsored by the NAACP Peoria Branch, will lead to several road restrictions along the MacArthur Highway corridor on Saturday, June 14. The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Motorists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to marked detours while considering alternative routes. The parade will commence on S. MacArthur Highway, south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, and proceed north on S. MacArthur Highway before concluding at the intersection of S.W. Jefferson Avenue and S. MacArthur Highway.
Specific roads will be closed starting at 9 a.m., including New Street at W. Howett Street and W. Millman Street at Linden Street, among others. Additional closures will begin at 11:30 a.m., affecting sections of S. MacArthur Highway and surrounding streets like Persimmon Street and Brotherson Street.
Parking restrictions will be enforced along the parade route during the event hours, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Detour routes have been suggested for drivers: utilizing W. Howett Street to S. Western Avenue leading to W. Bradley Avenue, as well as W. Bradley Avenue connecting back through S. Western Avenue to W. Lincoln Avenue.
