Steamboat Classic causes road closures in downtown and North Valley

The Steamboat Classic 15K, sponsored by Break The Tape, LLC, will result in several road and intersection closures in Downtown and the North Valley. The event will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and continue until noon on Saturday, June 14.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution along the race route and consider alternative routes due to expected delays.

The race will start on S.W. Washington Street at Hamilton Boulevard. Participants will proceed north on Eaton Street, west on Bryan Street, north on N.E. Madison Avenue, west on Abington Street into Glen Oak Park, exit onto E Gift Avenue, head south on N. Prospect Road back into Glen Oak Park, then exit east on Abington Street heading south on N.E. Monroe Street before going east on Main Street to finish at Water Street.

Road closures will occur in stages:

- From 5 p.m. Friday: Main Street from S.W. Washington Street to S.W. Water Street.

- From 4 a.m. Saturday: S.W. Washington Street from Main Street to Eaton Street.

- From 6:40 a.m. Saturday: I-74 eastbound Washington Street Exit 94 and I-74 westbound Adams Street Exit 93.

- From 6:45 a.m. Saturday: Multiple streets including sections of S.W. Water Street, N.E. Madison Avenue, N.E. Monroe Street, Main Street from N.E Perry Avenue to S.W Water street among others listed.

Additionally, temporary restrictions will be placed at intersections where Peoria Police Department officers will allow vehicles through when participants have cleared the area.
