Peoria County Board - County Health Committee met June 3.

1. CALL TO ORDER

1.1 Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairperson Blair at 1:04 pm.

A motion to admit Member Reneau and Member Elsasser to the meeting via teleconference was made by Member Bryant and was seconded by Member Daley.

Motion Carried. (8-0)

Abstained Member Reneau and Member Elsasser

Absent: Member Coates

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

2.1 April 22, 2025

A motion to approve the County Health Committee meeting minutes from April 22, 2025 was made by Member Duncan and was seconded by Member Williams.

Motion Carried. (10-0)

3. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS / REPORTS / OTHER MINUTES / UPDATES

3.1 Board of Health

Ms. Hendrickson directed the committee to the minutes for two prior Board or Health meetings. She provided a brief update in terms of programs. She stood for questions; there were none.

3.2 Care and Treatment Board

There was no representative present to provide an update.

3.3 Emergency Management Agency Monthly Update

Ms. Hendrickson directed the committee to the information Mr. Marks included included in the packet. She did highlight that Mr. Marks has been working with a lot of first responder entities in terms of their services accreditations as well as their processes. She stated he is also bringing together individuals to start looking at our outdoor warning systems. She explained they have been working with infectious disease partners at the state and local level to prepare for various health issues coming into travel season.

They have also been working with school districts and the ROE to look at vaccination rates and potential surveillance for measles.

Vice-Chairperson Blair asked if we have any known measles cases in the county.

Ms. Hendrickson advised there are none. She stated if there are individuals born after 1957 or received a vaccination and did not know which one, they should contact their provider as they may need a second dose.

Member Groves Allison asked Ms. Hendrickson if she could repeat the dates.

Ms. Hendrickson stated she would send that information to Mr. Sorrel to share with the Board.

3.4 ROE Health Committee Meeting 6/3/2025

Vice-Chairperson Blair announced that the Peoria Historical Society issues its Historical Preservation Award to the Peoria City/County new Health and Human Services campus. She stated as it is a new building, so hstorical preservation is for keeping where it is located She further stated that the County Health Committee was instrumental in helping decide whether it would stay in that location. We won a beautiful piece of art which is somewhere in the new building.

Dr. McKenna thanked the Board for their support. He advised the week he was appointed he was in Utah with the Department of Homeland Security doing a master training for behavior threat assessment and management. He mentioned it is a select group and had applied last year and didn't get in. He now has access to national level experts and he will be able to use the information the Department of Homeland Security has to help Peoria County School Districts. He provided an update from the Arts and Education Spring Celebration. Mr. McKenna stood for questions.

Member Rieker thanked Mr. McKenna for the update on the Spring Celebration. He asked if there were any thoughts about changes or possibly bringing it back to the courthouse plaza.

Mr. McKenna advised its been a busy time and they have not sat down to talk with anyone about what exactly plans are for next year.

Ms. Pence advised referred the committee to the data provided in the packet from May 23rd. She stated all the final data will be provided during the next committee meeting. This will be all the final data from the entire year. She shared a student success story. Ms. Pence stood for questions.

Member Williams asked what the plans are for the summer.

Ms. Pence advised they are organizing data. They will be working with other several other organizations to provide services to families.

3.5 Sustainability & Resource Conservation

Mr. Sorrel advised that Ms. Cottrell had a death in the family and will not be present today. He advised the county had the first hazardous waste drop off of the year this past weekend. This was in the parking lot of Landmark in Peoria. He stated there were 400 slots available which sold out and they ended up taking about 450 cars. There will be 3 more household hazardous waste events scheduled: August 2 at Expo Gardens, September 13 at Three Sisters Park, and October 4 at Alpha Park in Bartonville. He stood for questions; there were none.
