InPeoria, Illinois, Daniel N. Pace was sentenced to 60 years in prison for setting his girlfriend on fire almost three years ago. The victim sustained burns on 30% of her body, with third-degree burns covering 19%.

During the sentencing hearing, a letter from the victim was read aloud, detailing the ongoing impact of the attack. She has lost two jobs and may never work again due to her injuries. She continues to endure physical pain and faces emotional, mental, and financial challenges.

The judge described Pace as an "incredibly violent, evil person," stating he has forfeited his right to live in society.

On August 19, 2022, during an argument at their residence in Landmark Apartment Complex, Pace poured vodka over the victim's head and set her on fire by flicking a lighter twice.

In May, Pace was convicted of Aggravated Battery and Aggravated Domestic Battery for acting with exceptionally brutal behavior indicative of wanton cruelty.
