A Peoria County judge has ordered Lamar Cagle, a 17-year-old, to remain in custody while awaiting trial on charges of first-degree murder. The charges are related to the death of Teron M. Scott Jr., a 20-year-old who was shot and killed nearly three weeks ago in South Peoria. Due to his age and the nature of the charge, Cagle is being charged as an adult.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 20, at approximately 2:45 a.m. Police responded to a car crash in the 300 block of S. MacArthur Highway. Upon arrival, officers discovered Scott in the rear driver's seat of a car that had crashed into a tree at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Scott had sustained a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also learned about another gunshot victim who arrived at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Surveillance footage obtained by officers showed a suspect vehicle driving recklessly to catch up with the victim's car and crossing into oncoming traffic before shots were fired. The suspect vehicle was identified as belonging to Christopher Adams. During an interview with police, Adams admitted he was driving when his passengers fired guns from his car. He identified Cagle as the front passenger and Kamereon Bell as the rear passenger.
Both Bell and Adams have already been charged with first-degree murder and are currently in custody awaiting their trials.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
