Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River within the past 48 hours. The City of Peoria advises residents to avoid full-body contact with the river downstream from Detweiller Marina. Activities such as swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing may pose health risks if water is swallowed.

The city is working on projects to minimize these overflows during wet weather, complying with the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
