Darin LaHood, U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 16th district, has recently shared updates on his activities and positions through a series of posts on social media.
On July 31, 2025, LaHood addressed concerns about hate crimes, stating, "The rise of antisemitism across our nation is unacceptable. I greatly appreciate LaDona Fishkin and Goldie Pekarsky, who are the respective leaders of the Jewish Federation of Peoria and Rockford, for meeting with me to discuss ways we can combat hate and improve the safety of". The post highlighted his engagement with local Jewish community leaders to address rising antisemitism.
A day later, on August 1, 2025, LaHood commented on local industry during a visit to Galena: "The manufacturing industry is strong throughout #IL16! Today, I had the opportunity to see that firsthand on my tour of Lemfco Inc. in Galena. The company’s president, Desiree Einsweiler, hosted me at their foundry to highlight the importance of their work in various municipal". His remarks focused on supporting manufacturing businesses within his district.
On August 3, 2025, LaHood acknowledged charitable efforts in his region by noting significant fundraising achievements: "Over $12.1 million was raised for St. Jude’s to support children, treatment, and life-saving research. An amazing organization. Congratulations to everyone involved!"
LaHood has served as Illinois’ 16th district representative since replacing Aaron Schock in 2015. In the most recent general election held in 2022, he secured re-election by defeating Elizabeth Haderlein with over two-thirds of the vote.
