On August 8, 2025, authorities in Peoria charged Ashwin J. Greenleaf, 23, with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm after an incident involving his brother. The court granted the State’s Petition to Detain during Greenleaf's detention hearing, so he will remain in custody until trial.

Police responded to a shooting at about 4:00 p.m. on August 7 in the 800 block of W. Moss Avenue in the West Bluff area. Officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to his leg. According to police, the victim stated that his brother, Greenleaf, shot at him twice inside their home and that he recorded the event on his cell phone before Greenleaf left.

Greenleaf was arrested several hours later in Princeton. Police recovered a firearm from his vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing. Authorities ask anyone with information about this case to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
