Darin LaHood, U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 16th district, marked several significant events in a series of posts on his Twitter account this week.
On September 11, 2025, LaHood reflected on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks, stating: "Today, we pause to remember the thousands of lives lost 24 years ago in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In one of our nation’s darkest moments, America remained resilient and united. We will never forget the events of that day and the sacrifices of many for our country."
Later that same day, he recognized Charlie Kirk’s contributions to civil discourse and open dialogue. LaHood wrote: "Charlie Kirk was a fellow Illinoisan who devoted his life to his family, his faith, and his values. I was proud to join @RepMaryMiller and @RepBost to introduce a Congressional Resolution honoring his life and work to promote civil discourse and open dialogue." This resolution was introduced alongside Representatives Mary Miller and Mike Bost.
On September 12, LaHood turned attention to local celebrations in Morton, Illinois. He posted: "I hope everyone has an opportunity to enjoy the 59th Annual Morton Pumpkin Festival! I want to congratulate Libby’s Pumpkin on their 100th Anniversary! I’m proud to represent Morton, IL and all the farmers and businesses who have helped make it the Pumpkin Capital of the World".
LaHood has served in Congress since replacing Aaron Schock in 2015 as representative for Illinois’ 16th district. In the most recent general election in 2022, he secured re-election by defeating Elizabeth Haderlein with approximately two-thirds of the vote.
