Darin LaHood, U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 16th district, recently shared a series of posts on social media addressing the U.S. Air Force anniversary, economic development through Route 66, and public safety concerns in Chicago.

On September 18, 2025, LaHood marked the anniversary of the U.S. Air Force by stating: "For 78 years, the @usairforce has dominated the skies, safeguarded our freedoms, and ensured America’s security. Proud to have the brave men and women of @the182AW in Peoria! Happy Birthday to the world’s greatest Air Force!"

Later that day, he highlighted legislative efforts to support Route 66: "Route 66 fuels economic growth and opportunity in #IL16 and beyond. I was proud to reintroduce the Route 66 National Historic Trail Designation Act alongside @RepTeresaLF and my colleagues in the Senate to support and preserve the Mother Road."

On September 19, LaHood criticized comments made by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson regarding law enforcement: "Truly disgusting for Mayor Brandon Johnson to call the men and women who risk their lives to protect our communities a 'sickness.' This rhetoric vilifying law enforcement, coupled with his soft-on-crime policies, is what really endangers public safety. Chicago deserves better."

LaHood has represented Illinois’ 16th district since replacing Aaron Schock in Congress in 2015. In his most recent election in 2022, he defeated Elizabeth Haderlein with over sixty-six percent of the vote.
