Peoria Mayor Rita Ali has been elected to serve as Second Vice President of the Illinois Municipal League (IML) for a one-year term. The election took place during the IML’s Annual Business Meeting on September 20, which was part of the organization’s 112th Annual Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

Mayor Ali has been a member of the IML Board of Directors since 2021. Following her election, Ali stated, “I am proud to serve as Second Vice President of the Illinois Municipal League and to work collaboratively to support strong communities across our state. I remain committed to advancing equity, innovation and opportunity – not only in Peoria, but in all communities across Illinois.”

The meeting also saw Village President Sheila Chalmers-Currin of Matteson elected as President and Mayor John C. Lewis of Mount Vernon chosen as First Vice President.
