An audit released this week has revealed that employees at the Illinois Department of Corrections received overtime pay on days they were also on paid leave. The report indicates that in fiscal year 2024, the costs for this overtime exceeded $150 million.

Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver responded to the findings by stating, "This is absolutely outrageous, and another example of state agency dysfunction under the Pritzker regime. This type of egregious mismanagement deserves a full investigation and explanation to all of the taxpayers in Illinois. How can we be allowing this to happen? It makes no sense and should be infuriating to everyone, no matter their political affiliation."

Weaver added, "Governor Pritzker, we deserve answers, and we deserve better from our state agencies."

Travis Weaver, a Republican, began serving in the Illinois State House in 2023 after replacing Norine Hammond as representative for the state's 93rd House District.
