The City of Peoria has issued a warning following recent rainfall that led to a combined sewer overflow (CSO) into the Illinois River. The overflow occurred within the last 24 hours at one or more locations identified on an online map.

Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River downstream from Detweiller Marina. The city stated, "When this warning is posted, please avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River in the area downstream from Detweiller Marina. You may get sick if you swallow water while swimming, Jet Skiing, or water skiing in these areas after a combined sewer overflow."

The City of Peoria is currently working on projects aimed at reducing CSOs during wet weather events. These efforts are part of compliance measures under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
