Resurfacing work is set to continue on several major streets in Peoria starting at 6 a.m. on Thursday, October 9. The ongoing project affects Adams Street, Harrison Street, Liberty Street, Main Street, and Hamilton Boulevard. Lane and parking restrictions will remain in place during this period.
Paving operations are scheduled to begin along Adams Street and Hamilton Boulevard on Friday, October 10, if weather conditions allow.
Motorists are advised to expect significant delays while the work is underway. "The use of ALTERNATIVE ROUTES IS STRONGLY ADVISED," according to city officials.
On Thursday, temporary lane closures will be implemented in the 300 blocks of Harrison Street, Liberty Street, Main Street, and Hamilton Boulevard as resurfacing continues. Additionally, the far left two lanes of Adams Street will stay closed to all traffic from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass.
Parking restrictions will also be enforced throughout the affected areas. Both sides of Harrison Street, Liberty Street, and Hamilton Boulevard will have parking lanes closed. On Adams Street from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass, the northside parking lane remains unavailable.
"NO ON-STREET PARKING WILL BE ALLOWED IN THESE AREAS. ON-STREET PARKING RESTRICTIONS WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT WHILE THE METERS ARE BAGGED," stated city officials. "VEHICLES PARKED IN A RESTRICTED AREA WILL BE SUBJECT TO TOWING."
Temporary delays may occur for those entering or exiting the County of Peoria Parking Deck; however, off-street parking options at Jefferson and Twin Towers parking decks remain accessible.
Lane closures and parking restrictions are expected to change daily as milling and paving progress through different sections. Drivers should anticipate up to 30-minute delays when accessing parking decks or businesses near active construction zones.
Once resurfacing is finished, current traffic patterns will resume with one-way traffic on Adams Street remaining until next year.
Daily updates about work locations are planned through Friday, October 17. City officials urge drivers to stay alert for workers in construction zones and note that flaggers may be present at times for traffic guidance. Caution is strongly encouraged in these areas.
