Darin LaHood, U.S. Congressman representing Illinois’ 16th district, has recently used his social media platform to address several national and local issues, including the ongoing government shutdown, recognition of military veterans, and a new peace agreement in the Middle East.
On October 6, 2025, LaHood criticized Senate Democrats for their handling of the federal budget impasse. He wrote, "While Senate Democrats are playing political games, Americans are paying the price. The Schumer Shutdown is creating uncertainty for our families, disrupting critical programs, and threatening pay for our troops. It’s time they put Americans first and pass @HouseGOP’s clean CR."
The following day, October 7, 2025, LaHood highlighted his participation in an event honoring military veterans from his district. He stated, "Today, I had the privilege to welcome #IL16 veterans on the Greater Peoria Honor Flight to DC and thank them for their service. We owe our freedoms and liberties to the brave men and women who have made incredible sacrifices to defend our nation and the values it represents. "
On October 9, 2025, LaHood expressed support for a recent diplomatic breakthrough in the Middle East. He posted, "I applaud @POTUS and @SecRubio for their leadership and commitment to reaching this historic peace deal. This agreement, which includes the long-overdue release of all hostages, is a tremendous step towards creating lasting stability in the Middle East. My full statement : https://t.co/yVfXOhrSDR"
LaHood has served as a member of Congress since 2015 after replacing Aaron Schock. In the 2022 general election, he secured his seat by defeating Elizabeth Haderlein with 66.3% of the vote.
