Beginning at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, resurfacing work on Adams Street in Peoria will move from the north side to the south side. The project will result in lane and parking restrictions from North William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass.
According to city officials, drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during the resurfacing. Those entering and exiting the One Technology Plaza Parking Garage are also likely to experience significant delays. "The use of alternative routes is strongly advised," city officials stated.
The two far right lanes of Adams Street will be closed to all traffic between North William Kumpf Boulevard and the Interstate 74 overpass. Additionally, periodic lane closures will take place on Harrison Street, Liberty Street, Fulton Street, and Hamilton Boulevard between Adams Street and Washington Street, with these closures changing throughout the day.
Parking restrictions will also be in effect. The southside parking lane on Adams Street from North William Kumpf Boulevard to the Interstate 74 overpass will be closed, as will parking lanes along both sides of Harrison Street. "No on-street parking will be allowed in these areas. On-street parking restrictions will remain in effect while the meters are bagged. Vehicles parked in a restricted area will be subject to towing," officials warned.
Off-street parking options are available at the Jefferson and Twin Towers parking decks. The city noted that lane closures and parking restrictions are expected to change daily. Traffic patterns are scheduled to return to their current state once resurfacing work concludes, but one-way traffic on Adams Street will continue until next year.
Daily updates about milling and paving locations are expected through Friday, October 17. Drivers are urged to be mindful of workers in the area, with flaggers present at times to help guide traffic. "An extreme amount of caution should be used in the area," officials emphasized.
