Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow (CSO) into the Illinois River, according to a recent alert from the City of Peoria. The overflow has occurred at one or more locations identified on a map provided by city officials.

The public is advised to avoid full-body contact with the Illinois River downstream from Detweiller Marina during this period. The city warns that individuals could become ill if they swallow water while engaging in activities such as swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing in affected areas following a CSO event.

City officials stated, "The City of Peoria is constructing projects to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) to the Illinois River during wet weather, as required under the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree."

These efforts are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements mandated by federal regulations designed to protect water quality and public health.
