Congressman Darin LaHood, who represents Illinois’ 16th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, released a statement after the House voted to reopen the federal government. The vote comes after a shutdown that lasted 42 days.
“In September, I voted to avoid the Schumer Shutdown. Tonight, I proudly joined my colleagues in voting to put an end to it,” said Rep. LaHood. “While I'm glad a handful of Senate Democrats finally came to their senses and broke away from Chuck Schumer, this shutdown was entirely avoidable and went on far too long. Over the last 42 days our families have faced uncertainty, workers have gone unpaid, and our economy has been damaged all because Democrats wanted to use Americans' suffering as political leverage. I hope moving forward they recognize that this decision was reckless and grossly irresponsible. I look forward to picking up where we left off and continuing to deliver for the people of Illinois’ 16th District.”
LaHood has served in Congress since 2015 after replacing Aaron Schock as representative for Illinois’ 16th district.
In the most recent general election in 2022, LaHood won against Elizabeth Haderlein with about two-thirds of the vote.
