Sen. Sally Turner (R-Lincoln) recently shared with her constituents a link to a website opposing the criminal justice reform SAFE-T Act.

“By now you’ve probably heard about the new Illinois law, the Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Equity-Today (SAFE-T) Act, that completely abolishes cash bail beginning in January,” Turner wrote on Facebook. “However, with so much information out there it can be hard to find what you’re looking for.  That’s why I’m sharing this newly launched website, dedicated to bringing you accurate information about dangers within the Act.”

The Stop The Safe-T Act website offers visitors a list of actions they can take to have their voices heard, and details how House Bill 3653/PA 101-0652 was filed and passed. The page warns visitors that, “The rushed, poorly drafted 800-page law sparked outrage across the state for its little consideration to our law enforcement and public safety. Today, Illinois is on the verge of many of the dangerous SAFE-T Act provisions taking effect.”

Public Act 101-0652 lays out a standardization for use of force by law enforcement personnel across the state, sets up the elimination of cash bail, and requires the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority to issue a public report every year that shows trends and information on deaths in custody.

Turner has served in the Senate since 2021. Her legislative experience includes serving on the Ethics, and Senate Higher Education committees.  Turner resides in Beason.
