Union Street and MLK Drive closures scheduled for March 11 to March 13

The City of Peoria announced on March 9 that road closures will begin at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, affecting N. Union Street and W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. The closures are planned to last through Friday, March 13, weather permitting, and are necessary for water service work related to the Moss Avenue – Sheridan Road to Western Avenue – Reconstruction Project.

The city said residential access will be maintained during the closure period. Drivers in the area are advised to use caution and consider alternative routes while the work is underway.

According to the announcement, N. Union Street will be closed to all traffic from W. Moss Avenue to W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Additionally, W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive will be closed from N. Union Street to N. Hightower Street.

A detour route has been established for through traffic on W. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, which should utilize N. Hightower Street, W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue, N. Richard Pryor Place, W. John H. Gwynn Jr. Avenue, and N. MacArthur Highway.

The city advises motorists to remain alert in construction zones and follow posted detour signs until the project is completed.
