The Peoria Community Development Department is offering homeowners and renters an opportunity to apply to have their properties power washed.

Low-income residents at 80 percent or below the median income can receive power washing services at no charge under the city Power Washing Program. Other residents must pay half of the cost of the service in advance and the city will pay the remainder. The selected homes will be power washed by licensed contractors who have contracted with the city.

The Power Washing Program is open to single-family homes within the city limit. Garages, decks, driveways and other hardscapes and structures do not qualify for the program.

The homeowner or renter must fill out an application to be considered for the program and include copies of the homeowner's insurance, driver's license or state ID, receipt of the paid property tax bill and other requested items. Renters must include the property owner's signature giving them permission to participate. In addition, the applicant cannot owe fines or fees to the city and the property must not exhibit any environmental or housing violations.

The Power Washing Program is one of several programs sponsored by the Community Development Department to reduce blight and improve the quality of life in Peoria.
