The city of Peoria is seeking volunteers to pick up litter around the city, a release on the city's website said.
The volunteer-driven effort to beautify Peoria and has set up a lunchtime litter collection April 3. Volunteers should meet at noon at City Hall, 419 Fulton St., for supplies and information on which routes to walk in the downtown area during the noon hour.
Residents also are invited to a public interest meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 3 at Peoria Next Innovation Center, 801 W. Main St. to discuss the cleanup effort and which areas of the city to cover in future cleanup efforts, the release said.
“Imagine if everyone just picked up one piece of litter a day,” volunteer Steve Pierz said in the release. “The results would be incredible.”
Peoria also works with residents on beautification projects such as Trash or Treat and the Great American Cleanup, which takes place April 29. The city also hosts an annual Neighborhood Awards Banquet to recognize volunteer efforts.
