Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Board meeting was called to order at 7:00pm.

Members present: Adkins, Egleton, Musson, Shaw

Members absent: Bollinger, Briney

Administrators present:Supt./HS Principal Don Willett,

JH/GS Principal Dave Crouse

Community members present:Jay VanVoorhis, Curits Hammond, Diane Hammond, Seth Hammond, Tim Stevens

The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

6.2 SRC Foundation Scholarships; Thank you from Musson/Burget family were added to the agenda.

Motion by Musson, seconded by Adkins to approve the consent agenda items (minutes, bills, payroll). Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Seth Hammond was introduced as Student of the Month.

Thank you cards were presented to the Board from Disabled American Veterans (Eckert Memorial) and the Musson (Burget) Family for memorials from the school.

The Spoon River College Foundation presented scholarships to Briar Gorsuch and Andrew Miller for dual credit courses.

There were no old business items.

Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Egleton, seconded by Adkins to approve the purchase of a new lawn mower from Thomas Repair Shop in the amount of $8,035. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Adkins, seconded by Musson to approve the increase of bandwidth at the school to 325 Mbps. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Shaw, seconded by Musson to approve the 2017-2018 school calendar. Adkins, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Egleton voted no. Motion passed.

The Principal report from Mr. Crouse included:

•Both 7th & 8th grade BB teams lost in the respective regionals in the first round.

•8th grade girls volleyball lost the third place game in the County Tournament.

•The 5th grade welcomed and introduced teachers as part of the January Student of the Month assembly. This is part of the PreK-8 teachers giving more ownership to the students. Mrs. Massaglia also has JH students helping out in the library.

•Maddox Clemens won the Astoria Spelling Bee. Audrey Briggs was the runner up and Briley Kost is the alternate. The top two will compete in the Fulton County Spelling Bee. Mrs. Wherley and Mrs. Miller did a great job organizing and Mr. Little did a wonderful job moderating.

The Principal/Superintendent Report from Mr. Willett included:

•The Budget is in good shape. At 7 months into the fiscal year, we should be spending approximately 58.31% of the budget but currently the District has only spent 57.11%.

•The State has not made mandated payments to the school districts yet this fiscal year. They are in arrears $107,822 to our District.

•No response yet on the Kitchen Grant.

•The Lady Rebels finished their season 15-14 record.

•Senior night for boy’s basketball is February 17.

•Astoria is hosting the boy’s basketball regionals starting on February 20th.

Discussion was held about Post Prom.

Mr. Willett & Mr. Crouse attended a meeting with WIU representatives. Discussion was held concerning teacher shortage, recruitment of new teachers, and what the University can do to help at the local level. It was a very productive meeting.

Mr. Willett will be attending a Leadership Summit February 21 & 22 in Springfield. Several legislators and Governor Rauner will be speaking at the summit.

The District will be getting estimates for the JH and Elementary windows that need to be replaced and grade work outside the west side of the high school gym.

COOP meeting Wednesday, March 22 at 7:00pm in the Astoria elementary gym.

Motion by Musson seconded by Adkins to go into closed session at 8:04 p.m. for the following purpose:

•Appointments, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees;

Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Musson, seconded by Adkins to leave closed session at 8:20 p.m. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Motion by Adkins, seconded by Egleton to approve the minutes of the closed session. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

COOP Business-Motion by Shaw, seconded by Adkins to approve Doug Krukewitt as a volunteer assistant baseball coach. Adkins and Shaw voted aye; Egleton and Musson voted No. COOP vote 8-2 motion passed

COOP Business-Motion by Musson, seconded by Adkins to approve Wes Stambaugh as a volunteer assistant baseball coach. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. COOP vote 10-0 motion passed

Motion by Musson, seconded by Shaw to approve Cathy Hackman as a math/English teacher for the 2017-2018 school year. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

COOP Business-Motion by Egleton, seconded by Adkins to approve Cathy Hackman as a JH track coach for the 2017 season. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. VIT will vote on 2/22/2017. COOP results forth coming.

Motion by Musson, seconded by Egleton to approve maternity leave for employee 22017. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.

Board next meeting date, Wednesday, March 15, 2017.

Motion by Musson, seconded by Shaw to adjourn the meeting at 8:27 p.m. Adkins, Egleton, Musson and Shaw voted aye. Motion passed.
