Brimfield Community Unified School District 309 Board of Education met March 15.

The Brimfield Board of Education held its regular board meeting on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library. Bauer called the meeting to order with the following members present: Graham, Hoerr, Moon, Johnson, Harmon. Heinz was absent.
The Board recognized approximately twenty members of the community.
Mrs. Elizabeth (Buffy) Stewart addressed the Board regarding a survey completed by Supplyworks recognizing Brimfield School District as a gold status for meeting sustainability and being Green.
Harmon moved to approve the minutes of the regular board meeting of February 15, 2017, Curriculum Committee meeting of March 2, 2017, and Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting of March 7, 2017, Hoerr seconded. Motion carried
Mr. Richardson introduced Mrs. Jenni Wahl. Mrs. Wahl addressed the Board regarding five Brimfield seniors who had applied for the Community Bankers Association of Illinois scholarship. One of those five will be awarded a $250 scholarship directly from Princeville State Bank. Three of those seniors were selected to the statewide scholarship, and two were semi-finalists. These finalists are required to present their essay to a group of five or more. Hank Hedrick chose to present his to the school board. His essay was on his experiences with a community bank.

Mrs. Blane reported on her board report (on file in the Unit office).
Johnson moved and Hoerr seconded to approve the final calendar for 2017-2018. Motion carried
Hoerr moved and Moon seconded to approve the IHSA and IESA membership renewals for 2017-18. Motion carried
Harmon moved and Moon seconded to approve the resolution to transfer funds from the Operations, Buildings & Maintenance fund to Debt Services in the amount of $18,450 for the shortfall of the building bond payment due to the 6.9% sequestration rate from the IRS. Motion carried
Harmon moved and Johnson seconded to approve the Summer School Credit Recovery Program as presented. Motion carried
Johnson moved and Hoerr seconded to approve the lawn maintenance proposal in the amount of $16,674 for Steve Cramer for 2017 as long as he is insured. Motion carried
Moon moved and Graham seconded to approve the consent calendar items presented, which included the following items: bills for payment for the month of March, Position and Treasurers report for the month of February, and grade school and high school activity reports for the February. Roll call: Graham – yes, Hoerr – yes, Moon – yes, Johnson – yes, Harmon – yes, Bauer – yes. Motion carried
At 7:31 p.m. Harmon moved and Hoerr seconded to leave open session and enter into closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of an employee Open Meetings Act, 5ILCS 120, being sec. 2 (c) Roll call: Harmon – yes, Graham – yes, Hoerr – yes, Moon – yes, Johnson – yes, Bauer – yes. Motion carried
Harmon moved and Hoerr seconded to accept the resignation, with gratitude for time served, of Kevin Kreiter, High School Student Council Advisor, and Alex Larson, High School Musical. Motion carried
Hoerr moved and Johnson seconded to approve the Certified Employment list, as presented, for 2017-2018 (including tenure for Roberto Bernales, Kelsey Drea, Kylie Hankosky, Jaden Maher, Melissa McCauley and Brandon Porter) Roll call: Johnson – yes, Harmon – yes, Graham – yes, Hoerr – yes, Moon – yes, Bauer – yes. Motion carried
Harmon moved and Hoerr seconded to approve the hire of Kerry (Fran) Meyers, Grade School Track and Kelsey Drea, High School Musical. Roll call: Moon – yes, Johnson – yes, Harmon – yes, Graham – yes, Hoerr – yes, Bauer – yes. Motion carried
Harmon moved and Johnson seconded to approve the search of two Special Education teachers. Motion carried
Mr Livengood asked to address the Board about advertising when Board meetings are held. Mr. Harmon stated that they are the third Wednesday of every month, and the list of meeting dates is posted on the school website. He and Mr. Molleck said they would take care of advertising in the local paper.
At 8:26 p.m. Harmon moved and Moon seconded to adjourn the meeting.Motion carried
