City of Chillicothe Cemetery and Parks Committee met June 26.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

The Cemetery and Parks Committee met on June 26, 2017, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Present: Chairman Connor Alderman Jenkins

Alderman Gould

Also in attendance: City Clerk Hurd Mayor White

Superintendent Shawn Sutherland

Alderman Sharp Alderman Hughes

Absent: None

Chairman Connor called the meeting to order at 5:30pm.

Chairman Connor opened the meeting with discussion on future dates for committee meetings.

Bicycle Paths-

Chairman Connor turned the meeting over to Mayor White to discuss Bicycle Paths. Mayor White told the committee that the Bicycle Paths would not just be for bicycles but also for walking, therefore he referred to the paths as multi- use paths. Mayor White told the committee that he had meet with Kevin Yates of the Park District and discussed the multi-use paths. Mayor White then told the committee that he would like to form a task force along with the Chillicothe Park District to develop the multi-use paths. Discussion ensued and it was the consensuses of the committee to have Mayor White form a task force of people from the park district and the community with Alderman Jenkins as a city representative.

Sycamore Trail Park-

Chairman Connor told the committee that she had tried to contact the owners of McDonalds about possible grants for equipment. Discussion was held on what type of park should be placed in Sycamore Trail. After further discussion it was the consensus of the committee to reach out to the homeowners in Sycamore Trail by survey (with the help and recommendations of the Chillicothe Park District) to find out what type of a park they would like to have.

Park Signage-

Mayor White led discussion on park signage. He told the committee that the Chillicothe Park District has consistency in their signage and he would like to see the same consistency for the city parks. Alderman Sharp told the committee that he would like to see a different type of sign at Johnson’s Landing. He gave an example of a log sign and stated that he has spoken with a gentleman that would make it for free. Discussion ensued.

Cemetery Monument Request-

Chairman Connor told the committee that a request had been made for a special monument to be placed in the cemetery. Chairman Connor asked Clerk Hurd to lead discussion. Clerk Hurd then read the letter requesting the plaque to be place in front of headstone, flush with the ground. Clerk Hurd told the committee that cemetery regulations only allow one monument per grave space. Discussion ensued. It was the consent of the committee not to allow the additional monument.

Clerk Hurd gave an update on the columbarium.

Superintendent Sutherland gave an update on the trees in cemetery.

There being no further business, meeting adjourned at 6:23 pm
